Château Léoville Poyferré

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux 2nd growth situated at the northern tip of the left bank appellation of Saint-Julien.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces some of the softest, most supple wines in Saint-Julien, although in the last decade or so, they have put on more weight and body. This second growth offers relatively good value-for-money in top Bordeaux growth terms.

Léoville Poyferré had been the least successful of the three Léoville Bordeaux producers (Châteaux Léoville Barton and Léoville Las Cases being the other two), which were once all part of the same larger estate, Léoville, which dominated Saint-Julien in the 17th and 18th centuries.

However, in the early 1990s Didier Cuvelier and his team, including the highly esteemed consultant winemaker Michel Rolland, began to unlock the estate's incredible terroir, which has pushed Poyferré's wines (which display great richness and depth) to the pinnacle of Médoc production.
