Estate Notes

Penfolds RWT 2005 comes in its original tissue wraps.

First released in 1997, Penfolds RWT (Red Winemaking Trial) Shiraz comes from the perfumed, richly textured, seductive Shiraz grown in the west of the Barossa Valley. The result is a wine that helps to redefine Barossa Shiraz at the highest quality level.

Penfolds RWT Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single region Barossa Valley Shiraz matured only in French oak. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is more muscular and assertive.

“Rich, ripe and focused, with a lovely purity to the blackberry, dark plum and sweet spice flavors, playing against bittersweet chocolate notes on the long, expressive finish.” Wine Spectator

“Good red-purple; fragrant aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry; utterly delicious mouthfeel and seductive fruit; will live, but extreme patience not needed.” James Halliday
