Estate Notes

Penfolds' Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2014 is ripe, robust and generously flavoured. It has proved to be one of the most enduring and popular of the Penfolds wines. Initially a single vineyard wine from the renowned Kalimna (pleasant view) Vineyard, but since the 1970s it has become a multi-district blend adhering to a very strict level of fruit selection.

The origins of the Penfolds estate are set firmly in the medical sphere, and its reputation built up over the course of the 19th century based on the production of wines (often fortified) which were prescribed to patients by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold who had settled in South Australia in 1844.

Reviews

"This is the mother of the Bin range, first made in '59 from shiraz largely ex Penfolds Kalimna Vineyard. Kalimna is now a registered trademark, the wine coming from vineyards spread across SA. It spent 12 months in American oak, but it is all about the saturated black fruits and black licorice at the steering wheel of this multilayered, full-bodied shiraz, its future still in front of it."James Halliday

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 is open for business with a gorgeous nose yielding tons of spice box and berry preserves notes, plus suggestions of licorice and chocolate box. It is soft and supple on entry in the mouth with rounded tannins, rich fruit and a long, spicy finish." eRobertParker.com
