Estate Notes

Marques de Murrieta's Ygay Gran Reserva is a traditional Rijoa that is only made the very best Rioja vintages, and was purchased in its original wooden case.

A massively concentrated Rioja, combining power with finesse using the finest produce from high altitude vineyards, this benchmark Rioja is one of Spain's finest wines. The 2001 is approachable now, but will amply reward a few good years in the cellar.

"…the 2001 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial, a wine the Marques calls “the first vintage of the new era.” Purple in color with a ruby rim, it presents a slightly roasted character along with plum and liqueur-like aromas. On the palate balsamic and other savory notes make an appearance along with plenty of succulent black fruit. It has outstanding depth, concentration, and balance and should evolve for another 4-5 years. It is likely to have a 30 year lifespan."

"This supple red is fragrant with berry, wild herb and chocolate notes that carry through to the perfumed finish." Wine Spectator

“It is extremely impressive in every sense. It is elegant and out of the ordinary, far exceeding commercial standards…Elegant spicy fine notes-leather and fruit liqueur notes, cigar. Spicy fine tannins, elegant and long.” Guia Penin
