Estate Notes

La Spinetta Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano 2001 was purchased in its original wooden case.

In the north-eastern area of the Barbaresco zone, Bruno, Carlo and Giorgio Rivetti are the masterminds behind a string of highly commendable Piedmont wines.

Leading the way with new approaches to Piedmontese winemaking, La Spinetta crafts its wines using state-of-the art equipment – starting with the most sophisticated grape presses on the market. Although the Rivettis also believe that ninety percent of the effort is put into the vineyards, and ten percent into the cellars, and that each wine should be an embodiment of each distinct vineyard, rather than of the Rivetti label.

Reviews

"Lovely berry, spice and aged cedar on the nose. Full-bodied, with deep fruit on the palate that needs to be drawn out. Tannic and structured. This needs bottle age." Wine Spectator

"The 2001 Barbaresco Valeirano is convincing in its overall balance. Massively rich, it offers penetrating aromas of truffles, minerals, vanilla, tar and mint. On the palate it is dense and chewy with generous amounts of dark, backward fruit and a long, fresh finish punctuated by exuberant, youthful tannins." eRobertParker.com
