Estate Notes

Mascarello has been one of Piedmont’s benchmark producers for decades, and produces some of its best values. The Scudetto vineyard, planted with low yielding 70-year-old vines, is named after its shape (a shield).

Reviews

“Fashions and trends never affect the style of wines from Mauro and Guiseppe….an estate that has embodied the Langhe tradition since the late 19th century not just from Barolo but also Barbera and Dolcetto. Apparently subtle, rarified right from the colour and at times surprising in their aromatics, they travel through time as few other wines, frequently offering unforgettable experiences to wine lovers with patience.” Gambero Rosso, Italian Wines 2012

“The Barbera d’Alba Superiore Scudetto comes from the same slope as Santo Stefano di Perno, with a little sand mixed in with its clay soils.” Wine Spectator

An aromatic nose, brimming with red fruits, smoke and a hint of earthiness, precedes a firm yet forgiving palate. Classical in style this is both structured and forgiving, leaf notes, dried herbs and mineral characters all supported by fine grained tannins and bright, refreshing acidity.
