Estate Notes

Château Léoville Barton 1996 comes from an excellent Bordeaux vintage for the northern Médoc, which illustrates why it is the finest winemaking district on the planet. It was purchased in its original wooden case.

Château Léoville Barton is the smallest division of the Léoville estate and has been owned by the Barton family since the early 19th century. The wine is a powerful, tannic masterpiece that develops the classic Saint-Julien cedary character with age. Barton’s prices are also a breath of fresh air in today’s heady market.

Reviews

“The 1996 is more masculine on the nose with graphite and tobacco, a touch of sea salt developing with time, an estuarine tincture that is refreshing and speaks of its place. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a saline touch on the entry, much more closed than the nose, obdurate as usual, quite austere towards the cedar and tobacco and mint dominated finish.” eRobertParker.com
