Estate Notes

Château Latour 1962 (upper shoulder) comes from a very good Bordeaux year and is one of the most undervalued Bordeaux vintages of the 20th century.

Bordeaux’s 1962 vintage has been largely overshadowed by the truly outstanding 1961 vintage, which is a shame in some ways, but it also means that the great 1962 vintage, whose wines are characterised by their elegance, is a relative bargain. Latour’s 1962 was bottled in France and is drinking beautifully right now, with a good few years left in the tank, if you can bear to wait!

Sichel & Co Bordeaux slip label.

“Latour continues to be one of the great vintages for this chateau…A warm sensuous, sweet nose of black cherry, melted dark chocolate and pencil lead. Black truffles developing on acquaintance. Very smooth entry. Plush velvet texture. Wonderful balanced, exquisite and refined. Very fresh with seamless tannins and great fruit concentration. Cedar, chocolate, earthy and truffles. So, so graceful and elegant. The kind of wine you could drink all night. Pure nectare.”
