Estate Notes

Bodegas Olivares' Monastrell Dulce is arguably Spain’s finest sweet red wine and is back by popular demand. The Dulce is a real conversation piece, and a dessert wine to equal or surpass port. It combines perfectly with all kind of desserts (especially chocolate-based), as well as blue and aged cheeses.

Owner Paco Selva dotes over his spectacular estate of ancient Monastrell vineyards in the Jumilla appellation just inland of Alicante in south eastern Spain. The sandy soils in the area have protected the vineyards from the phylloxera plague which wiped out Europe’s vineyards in the late 19th century, allowing a few gems like Olivares’ Monastrell vines to survive. Truly a rare terroir indeed.

Reviews

Succulent dark berry preserve and candied blueberry on the nose, with hints of violet and smoked meat adding complexity. Sweet and expansive but focused, with tangy acidity buffering the lush, sappy black and blue fruit flavors. Very sweet but surprisingly light on its feet, with excellent finishing punch and lingering spiciness.
