Estate Notes

Antinori's Tignanello 1998 is a modern style Super Tuscan from grapes grown in a single vineyard.

Tignanello was, in part, set up to dispel the appalling reputation Chianti had made for itself in the 1970s and is arguably the original ‘Super Tuscan’. The influential Duemilavini Guide awarded the 1998 vintage ‘Cinque Grappoli’ (5 grapes), its highest accolade.

The hugely respected Antinori family has a distinguished history of winemaking in Tuscany (in both Chianti and now Super Tuscans) dating back to the 13th Century - that’s 26 generations!

"The 1998 offers a classic bouquet of berry fruit, new saddle leather, underbrush, earth, and toast from its new barrique aging. Medium to full-bodied, good delineation, and a firm, classic style, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well for 15-16." eRobert
