Estate Notes

Antinori's 1999 Solaia vintage was rated by the Wine Spectator as “the greatest Solaia ever made”.

Crafted by Renzo Cotarella (who has a doctorate in chemistry), the ’99 Solaia was aged in 100% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. A truly international style, and some argue reminiscent of a Médoc growth. An ’iron fist in a silk glove’, that just needs a little further time in bottle. This is about as serious as Italy gets.

The Solaia (lit. the sunny one) is drawn from carefully selected grapes from the vineyard of the same name: a direct continuation of Antinori’s Tignanello plot. Six hundred years of family winemaking skills and traditions have gone into making the Solaia.

"Dark in color, with intense aromas of blackberries and fresh herbs, such as basil, with a hint of eucalyptus. Full-bodied, with extremely well-polished tannins and a long, long finish. A tight and racy young wine that needs time to come into its own. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese." Wine Spectator
