Estate Notes

The 2001 Rhône vintage produced wines of power and structure, yet with a silky texture. The southern Rhône (Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe, Gigondas and Vacqueyras) was outstanding.

André Brunel's grandfather established Les Cailloux at the end of the First World War, and the estate has since become one of the finest and most reliable of Châteauneuf-du-Papes, with a glowing worldwide reputation.

Reviews

"Old-time, rustic style, with lots of dark, brawny licorice root, sweet earth, spice, baked plum and dark currant flavors. Rich and chewy, this gains muscle and flesh as it sits in the glass. Impressive." Wine Spectator

"The Cuvee Centenaire is one of the world's most compelling red wines…boasts an opaque plum/ruby color in addition to a sumptuously sweet, jammy nose of blackberries and cherries intertwined with sweet pepper, smoke, and balsam wood. Incredibly rich, with no hard edges, analytically this wine is very high in tannin, but tasters would never know that based on its wealth of glycerin and concentration… This a testament to the greatness of old vine Grenache.” eRobertParker.com
