Moreau-Naudet, Chablis Grand Cru 'Valmur', 2004

A.O.C. Chablis Grand Cru Valmur, Burgundy, France

Wine grower Stéphane Moreau was exceptionally surprised at how well the 2004 Chablis vintage turned out. From a small 0.6 ha vineyard first planted in 1978, this is one of Chablis' finest wines.

The Naudet family have been making wine since the 17th century, but Domaine Moreau-Naudet itself wasn't established until 1950, when Marie Naudet married René Moreau. Since then Moreau-Naudet has passed to their son, Stéphane Moreau, who has become one of Chablis' finest winemakers.

Stéphane only uses organic fertilisers, doesn't spray chemicals and harvests later than his neighbours to ensure perfect ripeness from reduced yields. He also keeps the wine on its lees for longer than his peers to achieve greater complexity. This is classic, flinty, minerally Chablis.

Reviews..

"An interesting nose of grapefruit and a subtle smokiness combines with elegant, delineated and ultra pure full-bodied flavors that are rich, complex and gorgeously textured, especially on the long and powerful finish. Despite the ripeness, there is an underlying coolness to the character and this is classic Valmur in personality." Burghound
