Scirus is Le Sorgenti’s flagship Super Tuscan wine, reminiscent of the wines from Bordeaux’s famous left bank appellation of Saint-Julien.
It is also produced in very limited quantities from the spectacular La Sala and Capaccio vineyards overlooking Florence, and the view from the glass is just as pleasing.... Tasting Notes..Dense, very ripe black fruits with notes of kirsch and macerated prune, wonderfully spicy and deep; fine mineral purity and underlying freshness beneath. Well concentrated and structured, with velvety tannins showing dense aromatic spice and sustaining acidity and minerality; long development of flavour, macerated but balanced, and a long intense finish. Reviews.."...on the nose dried berry fruit, especially cranberry and raspberry sprinkled with black pepper, and certainly a touch of spice alongside some roasted herbs. There's also a little toffee on the nose, perhaps a little residual oak. A good substance is immediately apparent on the palate, and also a thick layer of sweet and spicy fruit, seductive and polished. Broad, attractive, ripe with some appealing, supple but lightly grippy tannins underneath it all. Stylish and well judged, with a nice counterbalance of acid and grip behind the sweet-savoury, tannin-infused fruit. Long too. Very good." Winedoctor.com
"Ripe berry fruit with a hint of cassis gloss and a touch of bloody game is very appealing. On the palate this has a thick, sweet richness and lots of spice and alcohol...a delicious, big, powerhouse wine that would be fabulous with a chunk of steak, even though it's a touch more New World than Old in style." thewinegang.com
