Domaine Huet, Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux, 1990

A.O.C. Vouvray, Loire Valley, France

Huet's Clos du Bourg Moelleux is one of the most sought after wines of the Loire: a sweet, concentrated white of great intensity.

Domaine Huet l'Echansonne (often known as just Domaine Huet) defines Vouvray and is the finest producer this Loire appellation. The estate has a rich and colourful history, being established after WWI by Victor Huet and his wife Anna-Constance who gave up running a bistro for the vineyards to help improve a respiratory illness resulting from mustard gas attacks in WWI.

Victor's son later took over, though Victor was to find himself in charge again when Gaston went to WWII. On his return Gaston most notably stopped a TGV line going through Vouvray's vineyards, thus preserving this precious appellation.

Reviews..

"Rich, thick and unctuous, this sweet, smooth white offers apricot, peach, honey, butter, spicy and floral flavors, complex yet extremely well integrated. Incredibly concentrated. Delicious now or can hold for a decade." Wine Spectator
