Domaine Gros Freres et Soeur, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, 2008

A.O.C. Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, Burgundy, France

Vosne-Romanée produces the finest Pinot Noir in the world; combining intensity of fruit with power and finesse - a style often referred to as 'an iron fist in a silk glove' - rich and elegant with breeding and history.

The Gros family has been making wine in Vosne-Romaneé for over 150 years, and the estate was split into four parts in 1963 (under the Napoleonic Laws of Succession), two of which formed Domaine Gros Freres et Soeur run by Bernard Gros, son of the famous Jean Gros.

Bernard has overseen a great deal of investment in his properties, enlarging cellars and upgrading vineyards. His wines are not filtered and pure fruit flavours combine with supple oak flavours that enhance the richness and fine texture of the wine, but does not obtrude.

Reviews..

“Vosne-Romanée is a commune rich in grand cru climats and a village replete with growers of the highest quality…one of the grandest grands crus of them all, is the Gros family. There are now four separate Gros exploitations: Domaine Michel Gros, Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur, Domaine Anne Gros and Domaine A.F. Gros.” Clive Coates MW

"The best ‘08s are fresh, intense, bright, vibrant and very terroir driven– in short it’s a classic Burgundian vintage…A very ripe nose of red currant, plum, cassis and Vosne-style spice is couched in mild oak influence that can also be found on the very rich, round and suave medium-bodied flavors that are delicious and easy-to-like and culminate in a tangy and sappy finish." Burghound
