Giuseppe Mascarello's Scudetto is an enticing and impressive Barbera made from low yielding 60 to 70-year-old vines which is then matured in French oak for approximately 18 months. We come across many tasting notes, reviews and critique of wines but rarely so evocative and poetic as from Gambero Rosso 2012: “they travel through time as few other wines, frequently offering unforgettable experiences to wine lovers with patience.” Reviews.."...a round, soft enveloping core of perfumed fruit. This silky, accessible Barbera is likely to offer its best drinking over the near term. Sweet roses, tar and licorice linger on the close." eRobertParker.com "Good deep red-ruby. Crushed cassis, blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and pungent herbs on the nose. Dense and sweet in the mouth, with strong acids giving this concentrated wine impressive penetration and power." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar “Fashions and trends never affect the style of wines from Mauro and Guiseppe….an estate that has embodied the Langhe tradition since the late 19th century not just from Barolo but also Barbera and Dolcetto. Apparently subtle, rarified right from the colour and at times surprising in their aromatics, they travel through time as few other wines, frequently offering unforgettable experiences to wine lovers with patience.” Gambero Rosso, Italian Wines 2012 |
