Persia is Fondreche’s flagship wine drawn from its finest terroir – a heady concoction crafted predominantly from Syrah.
The limestone soils of the Côtes du Ventoux typically produce simple, fruity red wines, however not so at Fondreche. Here the soils give Châteauneuf a run for its money. Reviews.."The 2008 Persia, which is nearly 100% Syrah, is their attempt in the Cotes du Ventoux to produce something along the lines of a top-notch Cote-Rotie. This wine always exhibits plenty of aromatics, in this case white flowers, raspberry and black currant fruit, medium to full-body, very good acidity and minerality." eRobertParker.com (Oct 2009)
"On the nose it has some sweet and smoky Syrah character, with floral, peach-skin elements and some bright cherry fruit...sweet and fleshy start on the palate, with lots of texture but bright structure too, the wine possessing a laser-like acidity with soft, ripe tannins. A beautifully intense composition, pure and concentrated and yet light-footed too, never ponderous, well-defined and linear, but with substance at the end, backed up by plum and damson-skin grip. Impressive stuff." Winedoctor.com
"...a very dark colour and lovely cherry lift to the fruit, with pepper and spice and a touch of smoky herb quality. On the palate it is thickly-fruited and balances sweet, opulent flavours with some real tannic heft, and a certain nimble agility." thewinegang.com
