Fondreche's 2008 Fayard is a rich, heady southern Rhone blend - that has all the class of southern Rhone greats - without the price tag.
Winemaker Sebastien Vincenti’s aims for harmony, seduction and sheer drinking pleasure in his hedonistic Fayard blend. Sebastien is a meticulous vigneron who nurtures his vineyard and exacts rigorous sorting and frequent green harvesting. Harvest is carried out by hand and undergoes a strict selection process, and chemical fertilsers are strictly forbidden. Reviews.."...the 2008 Fayard (which includes de-classified Nadal in 2008, as that wine was not made) is a firmer wine with good minerality, hints of sweet and sour cherries, raspberries, and blacker fruits, with some spicy wood in the background. The wine has good weight, elegance, and freshness." eRobertParker.com (Oct 2009)
"Fondreche is one of the best value estates in all of France! Fondreche’s spicy, full-bodied reds from the southern Rhône s spectacularly mountainous Ventoux region offer Châteauneuf-du-Pape like flavours at a fraction of the price...a source of sensational wines that still sell for incredibly fair prices... Shrewd consumers should have been stocking up on these wines for a number of years as they represent terrific values.” eRobertParker.com (Feb. 2008)
"...A nice glossy hue and moderate concentration of colour in the glass. The nose is very typical of the principal variety, showing some sweet and smoky cherry fruit spiced with sandalwood. The Syrah also comes through a little, both on the nose and the palate, which shows more sweet fruit with a lot of cherry and cranberry character, backed up by an inordinate amount of spicy, peppery zip. Plenty of glycerine texture here, tinged with crunchy-crystalline sweetness, overall giving the wine an attractive style, with a nice bitter twist in the finish." Winedoctor.com |
