Dufouleur Frères’ Clos L’Evêque is a 100% estate grown Pinot Noir from the Mercurey premier cru that dominates the hills near Chalon at 250 meters altitude. Here, among the many premier cru vineyards, Clos l'Evêque has one of the best exposures and a reputation for the most consistent quality. Dufouleur’s vineyard holdings began after the French revolution when church land came up for sale, and by the end of the 19th century the family already had a fine reputation as both négociants and winemakers. The Clos L’Evèque is aged for 12-18 months in barrel, with the percentage of new oak varying from 30-100% depending on the vintage. Tasting Notes..Opulent blackberry and black cherry fruit aromas with intense sous-bois, violet and musk. Velvety and concentrated with good acidity. Very ripe and dense but balanced, with long musky, leathery black fruits. Reviews.."With its fresh, ripe, crushed-berry fruit and sweet, smoky, toasted oak aromas, this is a Burgundy for fans of new world Pinot Noir. That’s not to say that it isn’t for fans of authentic Burgundy – there’s a fine mineral backbone and savoury edge there too – but it’s a modern expression of Mercurey in a ripe vintage."
