Madone's Beaujolais Fût de Chêne is their oak-aged Beaujolais - a heady fruit concoction with structure uncommon in the Beaujolais region.
Grown on the steep hill below the La Madone crucifix in the village of Le Perreon, the aspect and altitude of Jean Bererd's Domaine de la Madone have more in common with nearby prestigious Beaujolais Crus than many of his neighbouring Beaujolais-Villages estates.
The current winemaker at Madone, Olivier Bererd, shuns the traditional maceration carbonique process associated with much of Beaujolais production, preferring techniques similar to those employed by Burgundian winemakers to produce a more complex, serious style of Beaujolais. Tasting Notes..Impressive, heady red/black fruits nose with overtones of violets, raspberries, smoke and oak. Very fine, ripe black cherry / dark plum fruits concentration, with spice, cherry skin/stone bitters. Good structure with ripe, sappy tannins. |
