Yquem is without doubt, one of the world's finest wine producers, of whom Robert Parker comments: "There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. The remarkable amount of painstaking labor necessary to produce the nectar known as Yquem is almost impossible to comprehend."
There is no rush to drink Yquem, but when you can resist the temptation no more we would recommend that you serve it alongside a foie gras or oyster starter, or with a fine blue cheese such as Roquefort (which has its own a.o.c.!). Several top international chefs have also partnered Yquem with sole and lobster dishes. Reviews.."This vintage ranks as one of the very best vintages in the history of the district. Golden brown with reddish nuances. Already in the nose, you could sense incredible intensity and depth with exceedingly sublime botrytis. It was incredibly sophisticated wine with extremely brilliant structure and wonderful balance, packed with sweet apricots, peaches and honey melon on the palate, and with honey-like texture. Aftertaste lasted for several minutes. It was simply pure perfectionism. This wine has potential to last for minimum 25 more years." Izak Litwar, greatbordeauxwines.com
"Very deep amber colour. A quite astounding nose of orange-rind, apricot, sultanas and fig. Amazing definition and vitality. The palate is very intense, perhaps quite conservative in some ways. Unctuous texture, good acidity with marmalade, quince and apricot. There is a slight dryness on the finish, but this is a majestic, authoritative wine that demands attention." eRobertParker.com |
