Château Veyry’s 2005 was rated the top Castillon wine at Decanter Magazine's 2008 annual Bordeaux awards. A great wine from a great vintage. But why not see for yourself.
Veyry is a garage wine – a term used to describe production that could fit into a garage. It is also literally a garage wine, comprising a battered old garage housing two battered old Citroens and disguising a small high-tech winery!
Its secret combines the genius of Christian Veyry with 4 hectares of south-facing vines that are a direct continuation of the limestone ridge upon which the great Saint-Émilions are based. And Château Veyry is certainly in the same rich vein as this classic Bordeaux style, without the price premium of its more famous neighbours. Remarkable wines from an unremarkable shed. Tasting Notes..Veyry 2005 expresses the minerality of the Côtes de Castillon, accompanied by enticing aromas of dark berries and black fruits, eastern spice, and cherries in brandy with hints of blackcurrant ripple ice-cream. Wonderfully complex. The palate displays an extraordinary purity of concentrated black fruits with a sumptuous chocolaty texture.
Reviews.."Attractive fruit. Sweet attack, velvety texture running to a firm tannic finish." Decanter Magazine (Feb 2008)
"From the fabulous 2005 vintage, 5% of Cabernet Franc joins the Merlot. This has a very good nose, with a touch of graphite and a little violet intensity to the ripe black cherry and cassis fruit. There's an essence of cassis on the palate too, wreathed in smoke and with a beautifully bright, balanced acidity and tannin structure that gives this both elegance and power." thewinegang.com
"...these are concentrated and sophisticated wines." Stephen Brook, Complete Bordeaux (2009) |
