Château Veyry's 2002 comes from a tricky Bordeaux vintage – with a small harvest of variable quality. In such a year it usually comes down to the real skill of a winemaker, who, with a little wizardry in the vineyard and cellar, can set their wines above the rest. Christian Veyry is one such winemaker.
Château Veyry comprises just 4 hectares of south-facing vines – a direct continuation of the limestone ridge upon which the great Saint-Émilions are based – and Veyry is certainly in the same rich Bordeaux vein.
Reviews.."This right bank claret is made from 100% Merlot, and in a tricky vintage (very wet) they have conjured up a deep, dense wine with creamy Morello cherry fruit and lovely fleshy, mocha-coffee density on the palate. An extremely impressive effort, and note: January 2012 sale price is £12.99, which qualifies it as a real bargain." thewinegang.com
“Fresh, firm and spicy, with juicy acids giving the cassis, blackberry, violet and licorice flavors good penetration. Finishes with firm tannins, lingering blackcurrant and licorice flavors and good grip.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar (May/June 2003)
“Very deep, very youthful, intense liquorice, very toasty. Really good pure fruit, tremendous depth of flavour oak is strong, but supported well.” Decanter Magazine (May 2006) |
