Château Saransot-Dupré, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, 2005

A.O.C. Listrac-Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Château Saransot-Dupré’s Merlot-based 2005 (unusual for a Left Bank wine) is rounded and eminently gluggable – packed with delicious black fruits, with spice and minerality adding interest.

It is no wonder that it achieved the highest award (the coup de coeur) bestowed by the prestigious French wine guide, Le Guide Hachette des Vins, and was also awarded a gold medal at the Bordeaux Concours wine show.

The Listrac-Médoc is one of the Médoc’s six appellations. However, the fact that it has no great châteaux to its name and falls under the giant shadow of Margaux and Pauillac makes it a source of great value wines – especially in recent vintages.

Tasting Notes..

Lovely open nose – cassis, black cherries, berry, spice and vanilla oak. Well-integrated chocolatey tannins, with creamy cassis, dark plum fruit character and blackcurrant pastille. Well-balanced, ripe, and satisfying and so moreish – extremely gluggable, with a fine mineral streak.
