Château Quinault l'Enclos, 1998

A.O.C. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, Bordeaux, France

Château Quinault l'Enclos' 1998 Saint-Émilion represents excellent value-for-money in Bordeaux terms.

Quinault l'Enclos, under Alain and François Raynaud, has soared to new heights of quality since they took over in 1997. The key to their success has the been the meticulous attention to detail in both their walled vineyard and the cellars: including double sorting of grapes, 18 months ageing in new oak barrels, and bottling without fining or filtration to keep all the character of the Saint-Émilion land in the bottle.

But Alain and François also have some pretty special 60+ year-old vines to work with, and who better to help them maximise their wonderful Saint-Émilion soils than Michel Rolland and Denis Dubourdieu – two of Bordeaux’s top consultant winemakers.

Reviews..

"An elegant as well as powerful effort, this dense ruby/purple-colored 1998 reveals notes of plums, black raspberries, vanillin, minerals, licorice, and spice. Exceptionally rich with an outstanding texture, this medium to full-bodied wine possesses a distinctive, individualistic style, largely because of its floral, blueberry fruit flavors." eRobertParker.com (April 2001)
