Château Pontet-Canet, 1998

A.O.C. Pauillac, Bordeaux 5ème Grand Cru Classé, France

Château Pontet-Canet 1998 is a great value from a forgotten Bordeaux vintage.

Pontet-Canet is a fifth growth on paper, yet not in reality, and produces classic left bank Bordeaux of quality well above its 5th growth status in the Bordeaux classification. While Pontet-Canet's wines are not in the same league as its neighbour Château Mouton Rothschild, they have improved dramatically in the last decade and offer unrivaled Bordeaux value-for-money.

Reviews..

"One of the better Pauillacs. Pure blackcurrant nose with a touch of pencil lead. Tight now but fine powerful black fruits underneath. Well-defined. Cigar-box. Good grip and depth. Excellent effort." eRobertParker

"There is no doubt that Alfred Tesseron is extremely and personally committed to making this Pauillac property express the maximum of its potential and has, most unusually, committed himself to a rigorous programme of viticulture based on biodynamic principles...he had introduced horses once more into the vineyard so as to minimise soil compaction - leaving all those precious microbes free to burrow and aerate that living soil." Jancis Robinson MW
