Château Mourgues du Gres' Les Galets Rouge is a superb new addition to our range - a truly great value southern Rhône. This deliciously spicy Mediterranean styled red is named after Les Grès terroir which is covered by galet roulés - reddish/purple sandstone deposits left by a glacial moraine along the Rhône river. Mourgues du Gres is beautifully set amongst garrigue and orchards, and immediately attracted winemaker François Collardin who formerly worked as an oenologist at Lafite-Rothschild no less. And while François runs the wine side (combining traditional and modern techniques), his wife Anne takes care of the marketing. Meticulous care and attention is paid to the vines, and the environment is treated with utmost respect, favouring traditional vineyard husbandry. Yields are low and the vines old (averaging 45 years); which ultimately means great fruit concentration and true expression of this wonderful terroir. Tasting Notes..Appealing floral notes and lovely red and black fruits on the nose, intermingled with black pepper spice. The palate is ripe, textured and well balanced finishing with vitality and freshness. Reviews.."The sexy, super-seductive, Mediterranean-styled 2009 Galets Rouge exhibits a dark ruby/plum color as well as a big, sweet nose of earthy black cherries and black currants intermixed with garrigue, pepper, and spice...lush, seductive, irresistible...one of France’s top sources for value wines...One of the most impressive estates in the Costières de Nîmes (a treasure-trove of value-priced wines). Mourgues du Grès’ wines are all worth checking out by consumers looking to maximizing their buying power." eRobertParker.com |
