Château Montrose 2001 made the most of an irregular Bordeaux vintage - one of the vintage’s most powerful and concentrated wines.
Montrose's success, as ever, was based on low yields. This is a classic Montrose style with incredible extract and its signature crème de cassis dimension.
Montrose is enjoying a grand period in its history. Over recent years it has been arguably the most reliable of all Saint-Estèphe Cru Classés: accounting for muscular, masculine Bordeaux that have proved a match for many Médoc first growths.
The 2001 vintage is drinking beautifully right now. Reviews..“Sweet notes of earth, compost, and thick, juicy black currant as well as cherry characteristics jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored 2001. Medium-bodied and rich, with moderately high tannin as well as surprising power and density…” eRobertParker.com (June 2004)
“Very dark, perfumed aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet and minerals. Bright but youthfully tight, with flavors of black fruits and minerals and moderate density. Finishes firm and backward, with very good grip.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar (May/June 2002) |
