Château Margaux, 1998

A.O.C. Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Corinne Mentzelopoulos owns and manages Margaux, although Corinne and her team prefer to feel that Margaux leads them.

In truth, Corinne and her mother and father before her have led Margaux out of the doldrums both spiritually and in terms of quality, and there seems to be a remarkable team ethic and bond from the vineyard workers right through to the management team.

Despite the estate's premier cru status, it has a wonderful family feel, lacking pretension and snobbery, and is renowned for its rich, opulent wines.

Reviews..

"Complex aromas of crushed blackberries and toasted oak, with hints of tar. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins and hints of vanilla bean and coffee underneath." Wine Spectator

"A deep garnet core with deep brick rim. The nose has moderate intensity, not the exuberance and exhilaration of the Haut-Brion, but expressive, with notes of blackberry, tar, a touch of leather and bilberry. What it does not have is Margaux's signature aroma of violets - this is more reserved and masculine. The palate is medium-bodied, quite peppery upon entry with good acidity and balance." eRobertParker.com
