Château Lynch-Bages 2005 offers stunning value from the great 2005 Bordeaux vintage.
Lynch-Bages, with a succession of fine vintages since 1981, has justifiably built up a solid reputation based on deeply concentrated, classically styled wines. Its owner, Jean-Michel Cazes, is a proud, gregarious man, who has constantly championed the wines of Lynch-Bages, Pauillac and Bordeaux. So much so, that President Chirac bestowed upon him the country’s highest decoration – a Knighthood in the Legion of Honour.
Known fondly in the trade as Lunch Bags, this phrase is perhaps more appropriate now than ever given the redevelopment of the hamlet of Bages, which now boasts a stylish café and bakery – perfect for lunchtime stops! Reviews.."Displays very beautiful aromas of crushed blackberry and dark chocolate, with a hint of coffee. Full-bodied, with a tightly wound palate of ripe tannins. Long and caressing.” Wine Spectator (May 2008)
“This outstanding effort is slightly lighter, more streamlined and delicate than followers of Lynch Bages have come to expect after such great vintages as 1982, 1989, 1990, 1996, and 2000. A deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by a classic Medoc nose of tapenade, roasted herbs, licorice, cedar, black currants, and damp earth. Medium-bodied with moderate tannin, sweet fruit, and surprising softness as well as forwardness for a 2005 northern Medoc." eRobertParker.com (April 2008) |
