Château Latour's 1999 comes from a very good Bordeaux vintage, and Latour made an absolute classic of its genre.
Château Latour needs no introduction – a world famous brand whose label commands huge respect and often price tags to match. But there is more to this great first growth than its hugely marketable name and label.
Latour is probably the most consistent of the Médoc's first growths in terms of quality. Even in tough Bordeaux vintages it manages to create wines that put many of its Bordeaux neighbours in the shade, and in doing so has justly earned its reputation among many critics as being the Médoc's finest wine. Reviews.."Superb breeding on the nose, pure blackberry, cedar, tobacco and a touch of hot gravel. The palate is full-bodied with very fine but assertive tannins, very good depth (similar to Mouton) but with the finesse of Lafite. There is a vibrant sense of mineralite here, a sense of transparency, relatively high-toned and showy (like the 2004 tasted just days before) that lends it more approachability. Very impressive persistency on the finish. Excellent." eRobertParker.com (July 2009) |
