The Barton estate (comprising Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton) has been in the hands of the Barton family since 1821, and is the longest family ownership of any Bordeaux châteaux.
The estate is owned and run by the congenial Anthony Barton and his daughter Lilian, who have succeeded in maintaining its reputation for producing traditional top-flight Bordeaux wines with great ageing potential, yet relatively small Saint-Julien price tags.
There are few Bordeaux châteaux today that consistently receive such favourable press from journalists and consumers alike, yet remain such good value-for-money. Thanks to the Barton’s noble aim to produce classic Saint- Julien wines that many consumers can afford, Léoville and its stablemate Langoa is one such producer.
Léoville and Langoa are always the subject of comparison but they are definitely two different estates. Langoa invariably shows perhaps a more feminine and accessible side with Léoville being more muscular. |
