Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2005 is a shrewd buy for those seeking Bordeaux quality and value-for-money from the great 2005 Bordeaux vintage - and an excellent interpretation of the classic Pauillac style.
Grand-Puy-Lacoste is an estate on the up. Its success, as the welcoming Isabelle La Sueur told us, can be attributed to owner François-Xavier Borie, who since taking over from his father, has taken this 5th growth Pauillac château from good to great. Xavier has rebuilt the cellars, installed smaller vats and instigated a more rigorous selection process.
Grand-Puy-Lacoste's wines carry a hint of crème de cassis, which is the château's trademark characteristic in top vintages.
Please note: Bottle size is imperiale (Bottle shown is not actual bottle). Just one bottle available.
Reviews.."This is a stunning showing for Xavier Borie’s estate, one of my highest scoring wines of the entire tasting and vindicating its performance in barrel. It has an incredibly intense nose of black fruits, a touch of pine cones, then dried blood and smoke, but again, brilliant definition with a sense that it is saving itself for later. Astounding definition on the palate, real depth here, ripe blackberry, earthy, a touch of briary, very controlled and refined on the finish. Great length. Majestic." eRobertParker.com |
