Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1966 comes from the most popular Bordeaux vintage between 1961 and 1982. This wine is English bottled and from a bin-end cellar.
1966 produced wines full of charm and complexity, and the vintage was one of the first to combine a large harvest with high quality.
Ducru-Beaucaillou is right at the top of the ladder in Saint-Julien, and it is known as a 'Super Second' – a second growth producing wines equal or superior to the illustrious first growths. Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful stones (beaux cailloux) found in its unique wine-growing soils, and the château is managed by the affable and welcoming Bruno-Eugene Borie, whose family has owned Ducru-Beaucaillou for 60 years. Reviews.."...the 1966 Ducru-Beaucaillou defines such wine adjectives as elegant, graceful, and well-bred. Medium dark ruby with an amber edge, the bouquet is spicy, cedary, and subtly herbaceous. Velvety, round, medium-bodied flavors exhibit good concentration." eRobertParker.com
"Shows good intensity in a fully mature wine. Ripeness comes through in the sweet dried fruit and brown sugar flavors, but it has a firm backbone of tannin." Wine Spectator
"Fullish colour. Very classy nose. Quite lovely fruit. The quintessence of Saint-Julien. Very succulent. Full, very rich and concentrated. This has First Growth quality, class and intensity. Very lovely opulent (yet dignified) fruit. Very long and complex. Head and shoulders above the rest of the Pauillacs (except the First Growths) and Saint-Juliens. Very fine plus." Clive Coates MW |
