Auntsfield's Sauvignon is the epitome of this great Marlborough style. Auntsfield can lay claim to being Marlborough’s oldest vineyard, dating back to the 1860s, when Muscat was the grape of choice for the visionary David Herd who made wines for 50 years until it reverted to being a sheep station. In the modern era, when the Cowley family took over, there were no grapes to be found, and it wasn't until they began researched the history that they realised they had bought Marlborough’s very first vineyard. Tasting Notes..Lovely floral blackcurrant leaf with limey grapefruit aromas- A super creamy palate with good weight and ripe white stone fruits. Zesty lime notes follow through with very good persistence. An absolute joy. Reviews.. “...fresh, pithy fruit behind. Quite a tight-knit, firm, mineral palate with good fruit concentration” **** Decanter Magaznie "...good to see a wine labeled as "Southern Valleys" especially when its in a rich, complex and intense style typical of that newly designated area area. It shows a mix of green capsicum, mineral, passion fruit, gooseberry and subtle nettle flavours. Linear and long with assertive fruity acidity. A portion of the grapes (15%) were hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeast in seasoned oak barriques to add texture and complexity to the wine." Bob Campbell MW "[Auntsfield] have an interesting portfolio full of character and occasionally great quality" eRobertParker.com |
